Ingredients:
For the chicken:
500 g chicken thighs or breast (boneless, cut into medium pieces)
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ cup cornstarch
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp paprika (optional)
½ tsp salt & pepper
1 cup cold water (or soda water for extra crispiness)
Oil for deep frying
For the honey garlic sauce:
4 tbsp honey
3 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp ketchup (or chili sauce for a spicy kick)
2 tbsp brown sugar
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
1 tbsp butter
Instructions:
- Prepare the batter:
In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Add cold water and whisk until smooth (like a pancake batter).
- Coat and fry chicken:
Heat oil in a deep pan (170°C / 340°F).
Dip chicken pieces into the batter and carefully drop into hot oil.
Fry until golden brown and crispy (about 6–8 minutes).
Remove and let drain on paper towels.
- Make the sauce:
In a pan, melt butter, then sauté garlic until fragrant.
Add honey, soy sauce, ketchup, and brown sugar.
Simmer for 2–3 minutes.
Add cornstarch slurry and stir until thick and glossy.
- Coat chicken:
Toss the fried chicken in the sauce until evenly coated.
- Serve:
Garnish with sesame seeds or chopped parsley.
Serve hot with rice or fries.
