Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken (about 3–4 lbs) or 6–8 chicken pieces
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp smoked paprika
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tsp chili powder (optional for spice)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 cup your favorite BBQ sauce
- Wood chips for smoking (hickory, apple, or mesquite work well)
Instructions
- Preheat your smoker or grill to 225–250°F (107–121°C).
- In a small bowl, mix olive oil, smoked paprika, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Rub the mixture generously over the chicken, coating all sides.
- Place the chicken on the smoker or grill with indirect heat. Add soaked wood chips for a smoky flavor.
- Smoke the chicken for 2.5–3 hours, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- Brush BBQ sauce over the chicken during the last 20 minutes of cooking to create a sticky glaze.
- Remove from the smoker and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Would you like me to make this recipe for whole smoked chicken or smoked chicken pieces (like legs/thighs)? I can adjust the times and ingredients.
